Karen Rayne, Sex Education Speaker

Diego Espino
Vice President of Community Engagement
Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio

Diego moved from California to Central Ohio to attend Ohio Wesleyan University and has been with Planned Parenthood since 2004. In his current position, Diego oversees the Health Education & Outreach programs throughout the affiliate and the PPGOH Community Engagement initiatives. Diego has also managed the PPGOH Marketing Department and the Public Affairs and advocacy activities in his tenure with PPGOH. Diego is part of the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education and the co-author of a peer reviewed paper on evaluation of comprehensive sexuality education programs in the Family Science Review.

As part of his responsibilities, Diego also oversees special projects to promote organizational development such as associate engagement initiatives and abortion stigma reduction programs.

Diego is involved in several statewide organizations including the Ohio Domestic Violence Network as part of their Leadership Team, the Ohio Adolescent Health Partnership, and a member of the Infant Mortality Advisory Group for the Health Policy Institute of Ohio.

Karen Rayne
Sexuality Education and Training Specialist
The Center for Sex Education

Karen is the sexuality education and training specialist for The Center for Sex Education. A curriculum development expert with more than two decades’ experience in sexuality education, Dr. Rayne is passionate about providing comprehensive sexuality education to people of all ages and stages with sensitivity and a touch of humor. Dr. Rayne has served as chair of the National Sex Ed Conference and Associate Editor of the American Journal for Sexuality Education. She is the author or editor of several teaching manuals, including Streetwise to Sex-wise: Sexuality Education for High Risk Youth, Orientation: Teaching about Identity, Attraction, and Behavior, parent-child communication curricula (one for the Unitarian Universalist Association and one in conjunction with the United Nations Population Fund and the Zimbabwean Ministry of Health), and youth-focused curriculum (three for Girls, Inc. and one for a federally funded project through Carnegie Mellon University). Dr. Rayne is also the author and co-author of a number of trade books, including GIRL: Love, Sex, Romance, and Being You, Help Your Kids with Adolescence, and Breaking the Hush Factor: Ten Rules for Talking with Teenagers about Sex.
