White Unless Otherwise Specified: Colorblind Sexuality In a World of Living Color

  • Sexuality education and social justice are interconnected. Duh, right? Well then, why do we teach about sexuality without a true social justice lens? Race matters when teaching sexuality education. We cannot continue to be colorblind about a topic when we are in a world of technicolor. So how do we go about it? In this presentation I will talk about integrating cultural and racial differences in sex ed. However, because I happen to be Black…and a woman, I will place an emphasis on Black female sexuality. (I am a beautifully biased creature.) We will also talk about sexism and racism and their best buds, colorism and texturism. Don’t worry, everyone will leave with some important action steps.
